Tasha's Zip Wire Experience...

Our Zip Wire Experience went down a treat the other week with over 350 people taking part for fun and for charity. One of these was our Zip Wire Challenge Blogger, Tasha who has kindly wrote about her day for us. Read all about her experience below or watch here!

Zip Wire Challenge Blogger Experience

When Sunderland Live first contacted me to say I’d been picked as their Challenge Blogger I was really excited. Then they offered me the chance to take part in the Zip Wire Challenge! I was pretty nervous even just at the thought of it; since I’m not really all too fond of heights, but I knew they must have picked me for a reason and decided to just go for it!

Leading up to the day, I found myself walking across the Wearmouth Bridge to university, looking down the 105ft below to the river and trying to prepare myself for the zip wire.

When I arrived around 10:30am on Sunday, I was still nervous at the thought of taking part, but there was no way I’d drop out! I got all harnessed up, attached the camera to my head and I remember feeling quite calm while I was waiting on the bridge, well reasonably calm considering the situation I was about to be in!

Then it was my turn… The guy connected me to the zip wire and told me to sit down as far as I could then just step off the bridge. This was probably the scariest part of the entire thing, being stood on the edge of the bridge and my body freezing slightly, knowing it goes against everything to step off and let myself go. I took a deep breath, counted to three and just did it. If I hadn’t, well…it would’ve taken a lot longer to build myself up for it.

Once I’d stepped off and was flying through the air, I realised how fun it was and I do feel like I’ve achieved something by taking part in the Zip Wire Challenge! It’s great to push yourself to do something that scares you and I can honestly say, I’d definitely do it again!
