Chris Alexander - November 14th 2013 Weekly Update
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Sunderland.
It all kicks off tonight with the traditional Christmas Lights Switch On where the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Sunderland will be joined by Sunderland AFC Head Coach, Gus Poyet to push that all-important button. The Christmas Lights Switch On marks the beginning of the many festivities here in Sunderland.
After the Switch On, guests are invited to linger in the city and visit our Christmas Village, which opens in Market Square at 7.15pm. Children can gaze into Santa’s workshop and the reindeer flying school, plus take a seat on Santa’s sleigh. The Christmas Village will also be hosting street entertainment.
Tonight’s festivities also mark the beginning of late night shopping here in Sunderland and will run throughout the Christmas period every Thursday night.
Don’t forget, make sure to download your Restaurant Thursdays voucher or take along your Christmas in Sunderland brochure to receive discounted dining in the city! Take a look at the Restaurant Thursday’s event page to find out more.
The Sunderland Christmas Lights Switch On starts from 6pm this evening. Find out more about the Switch On and the Christmas Programme here.
