To commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE Day, more than 200 beacons will be lit around the country on Friday 8 May with Cliffe Park in Seaburn chosen as the venue for Sunderland.

Themed celebrations will begin at 6pm with Sunderland's beacon being lit by the Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Stuart Porthouse at 9.32pm.

Admission is free and the programme of events includes live music, fairground rides, Second World War exhibitions and arts and craft activities.
