Sunderland Live will be bringing The Color Run to the North East for the first time on 20th July 2014.

The Color Run, known as the ‘Happiest 5k on the Planet’, is a new genre of running event that has taken the US by storm.

Promoting health and happiness, runners are doused head to toe in vibrant colours at each kilometre of the race. The only rules are that each runner begins the race dressed in white and finishes the race completely covered in vibrant colour.

Sunderland Live will be bringing The Color Run to the North East for the first time on 20th July 2014 and expects demand for places to be very high and highly sought after.

To see some photos of what to expect take a look at The Color Run UK's website here.

Route details are still to be confirmed and further details will be announced soon.

Registration -

Registration will open at 9am on February 7th

Click here to go to The Color Run UK site to book your place!

How much does it cost?
If you are entering The Color Run™ as a team, it is £23.00 (per person) + £4.99 for postage and packing of your race pack. If you're entering as a solo runner or walker, it is £25.00 + £4.99 for race pack postage and packaging.

How does a team work compared with a solo runner?
Pretty simple, you register as a (4 minimum/infinity max) unit rather than as an individual. You get to pick a groovy custom team name, anything from The Roy G Biv All-stars to We Sweat Rainbows. You then get to run/walk together and “help” each other get really coloured up over the 5 colour kilometre. There is no “relay” component and team members can finish together as a unit or separately.

I want to book a team of runners for The Color Run Sunderland... how do I do this?
Simple - the lead runner of the group registers their place and chooses the team name... then they tell all their friends who wll run with them and they register underneath that team name!

Do I need to be some sweet ole’ runner to do this?
Oh my goodness, NO. There are plenty of other great 5ks out there to test speed and performance. This Color Run™ event is all about a colour crazy day with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or cartwheel if you wish!

What is included with my The Color Run™ registration?
Runners will receive a custom The Color Run™ race shirt and tattoo, race number, and a “Colour Runner™” finisher sweat band. These race packets will be posted to you! You will also receive a pack of colour at the finish line!

What is the inspiration behind The Color Run™?
The Color Run™ is the first colour race of its kind and was inspired by several awesome events, including Mud Runs, and Festivals throughout the world such as Holi. We wanted to create a less stressful and untimed running environment that is more about health and happiness!

Can I run with a jogging pushchair and my kids?
On one condition…if you are prepared to be one of the hippest parents on the planet!  As long as they are cute and like to have fun... all kiddos 5 and under can run with an adult FREE of charge and do not need to register!

Can I run with my dog?
NO DOGS are allowed - sorry!

Is there an age limit for younger runners?
No age limits if they can cover (running, jogging, walking, strolling) the 3 miles of The Color Run™ course, they can absolutely do The Color Run™ 5k! Remember though, as soon as they turn 6 they will need to register and have a race vest!

How strict is the “white clothing dress code” for the start of the event?
We will have white clothing police inspectors located throughout the event.  You will be arrested and put in The Color Run™ jail if more than 11.8% of your clothing is a hue other than white.

Were you kidding about the question above?
Yes we were.  As long as runners wear shirts that are mostly white, you are totally good.  They can include team logos and any other image you see fit. To the point, it is really just more fun to run starting in white and ending, well… COLOURIFFIC!

How is the colour administered?  Will I be hurt, maimed, or killed?
Ha ha ha we love this one.  No, it doesn’t hurt at all.  It is like getting into a powdered sugar food fight!

Will the colour ruin clothes or running shoes?
The "colour" does mostly wash out after the event.  As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colourful. If you would like to preserve the colour in your running shirt, spray it with vinegar and iron it.  If you wash your shirt, the colour will eventually come out.

Do the kilometre “Colour Zones” affect runner vision? Or breathing?
The Color Run™ explosions are basically food grade cornstarch and are 100% natural and SAFE.  As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our “certified” colour throwers make sure to aim low as you pass by.  Some runners opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.

Do you have “cleaning stations” at the finish after party?
We have air blown colour cleaning at the finish line. With a good dusting off, you aren’t 100% clean, but you are totally good for the drive home.  It is actually pretty fun to see people still coloured up around town after The Color Run™ event.  It is like a badge of honour!

How does the colour affect the inside of cars?
Most people bring some towels for the insides of their cars, just in case. It’s like driving home from the swimming pool in your swimsuit

Can spectators attend the post-race The Color Run™ party?
Absolutely.  We will have The Color Run™ powder packets available first come/first serve for everyone to purchase.  You may want to warn them though… they ain’t coming out of The Color Run™ party clean!

Are cameras and phones safe to have in the colour zones?
Our race photographers are totally fine shooting from a medium distance (25-50 feet).  If you want to get shots right in the midst of the colour we recommend covering cameras/phones with cling film or a suitable plastic wrap.

Is The Color Run™ timed?
The Color Run™ 5k is not a timed event.  Runners tend to take their sweet time out there and we realised no one really cares about their speed. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.

How do the post-race colour throws work?
At the Finish Festival, the crowd will do a colour throw every 15 minutes to welcome new runners coming in.  We provide one bag of colour in your race bag and more can be purchased at check-in or the finish if desired.

Why 'Color' and not 'Colour'?
The Color Run™ is an American trademark and we have to play by their rules when we refer to it! You know how it is potato - patata, tomato - tamata!
